Poker Tips
Financial management goes hand in hand with playing poker. You will not be able to win big money without enough bankroll to back up your games.
Given the times you can join free poker rooms online, you have to understand, too, that the money will most likely sit there unless you return and place a deposit first or play again. Either way, you still need adequate finances to get them.
Money Terms
Bankroll refers to the amount of money you have on hand to be able to play poker over a set time frame. Buy in is separate amount of money you need to start in a game, also referred to as entry fee when joining tournaments. Your bankroll is important, and it would foolish to use all of it to buy your chips at any one time.
You need your bankroll to tide you over the lows you go through during poker sessions. If you are not able to manage going low on your bankroll, you must think how poker will affect your overall financial portfolio in gambling.
Betting and Bankroll
In the normal course of poker game, it is not good to wait until your stack of chips disappear before buying some more. If you work with low stack, the tendency is to play weak or bluff.
Unless you can pull a bluff off, it would be better to just fold when you still have something to walk away with instead of playing to lose. In other words, your only sure chance at survival is having the best hand in the field.
Now you may ask how much bankroll would be suggested when playing poker? The general recommendation is that it should range from a minimum of 200 times to 300 times of the big bet, depending at the level you are playing at.
You might gasp at this amount, but you will realize that given the upswing and downswing of poker sessions, this amount is just enough to cover your game.
Again, the point is for you to play comfortably without being forced to take action that will most likely lead to failure. Besides, players think and act better if they have financial cushion.
It becomes a psychological struggle if you have less than 100 times the big bet for bankroll where it is common to experience downswing equivalent to 50 times the big bet. Even professional poker players understand this strong correlation between betting and bankroll.
